On September 17, 2024, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam, Meghalaya, proudly organized a special tree plantation
drive under the campaign “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam”, a national wide initiative taken up by the honorable Prime Minister, GoI, Shri Narendra Modi Ji, on the occasion of the World
Environment Day, 2024 (5th June). This initiative aimed to honor mothers by planting trees, symbolizing life, growth, and nurturing values closely associated with motherhood",
with the primary goal to enhance the green cover on the institute campus, to raise awareness about the importance of trees in combating climate change, to foster a sense of responsibility
towards environmental conservation among employees and to honor and celebrate mothers by dedicating each planted tree in their name.
The drive saw enthusiastic participation from over 80 numbers of employees of the institute including scientific, administrative, technical, supporting staff. A total number of 100 Agar (Aquilaria malaccensis)
tree saplings were planted at the premises of Agroforestry, Hill Top site of the institute
Dr. V.K Mishra, Director, ICAR-NEH, Umiam, elaborately enlightened the audience with his thoughtful insights on the significance of our mothers and their contribution
towards environmental protection and society as a whole and importance of honoring their contributions. He also reiterated the institute’s commitment to ongoing environmental initiatives and encouraged everyone to continue
supporting green causes. The event was organized by scientists from Division of System Research & Engineering (DSRE), viz., Dr. N. Raju Singh, Mrs. M. Prabha Devi, Dr. Y. Bijen Kumar and Mr. Praveen G., with overall guidance
and supervision of Dr. Samarendra Hazarika, Head, DSRE and the honorable Director of the institute, Dr. V.K. Mishra. The drive was a resounding success, demonstrating our commitment to environmental sustainability and community engagement.
